For San Franciscans, “Summer Reading” is a more flexible concept than for folks in other places. We’re as likely to be doing our reading curled up under an afghan on a foggy evening as basking in the sun on a beach. So, in the spirit of keeping our options open and mixing it up a bit, we at Folio Books are playing Summer Reading Bingo, and we invite you to join us. Playing cards are available at the store or via download here and consist of a grid of 25 bookish categories.
So, play bingo and then on Sunday, August 24th, join us for a tea party here at the store to talk about our favorite summer reads and our most anticipated books of the fall. Bring your bingo card to be entered into a drawing for a $20 gift certificate.
As for my reading bingo card, I’ve just finished the new Dublin Murder Squad mystery from Tana French that’s coming out this August (I loved it!), so I can cross out any one of the following squares – “A Book Written by a Woman”, “Mystery”, “A Book Published in 2014” or “A Book Set in Another Country”. What’s next? Maybe I’ll read John Green’s huge hit The Fault in Our Stars – it’s a young adult novel, with a blue cover, and it became a movie, which will give me three more choices of squares. Or, perhaps I’ll finally read To Kill a Mockingbird – which goes in the category of a classic I always meant to read.
In other store news, if you’ve got little ones, ages 2-12, be sure to bring them by the store during July to play the “I Spy” game in our window. All kids playing the game will get a prize. For the older kids (ages 8-12) we have our second Bookworms Club meeting on Friday, July 18th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Pizza will be served, and local author Jordan Jacobs will be talking to the kids about his Samantha Sutton series. RSVP for pizza planning purposes by emailing email@example.com.
