From San Francisco to Brooklyn, book lovers are gearing up for Independent Bookstore Day and Folio Books is no exception! Join us on May 2 for an extra-special literary celebration with tasty treats, games and prizes – oh, my! Read on for all the juicy details of the day.
At 9am all limited edition items will be available for purchase. Come early, some of these are going to go fast! We will also have Bay Area Bookstore Passports available for pickup and stamping.
At 10am we will start the fun & games for the day with Three Word Reviews and Guess That Book – All customers who play will be entered to win a beautiful Litographs Tote Bag brimming with FREE BOOKS. Games will run until 5pm!
At 10:30am Mary Burk, author of Stairway Walks of San Francisco, will lead a Noe Valley walk. Following the walk there will be a signing with donuts and morning cocktails here at the store!
At 1pm Alexa Andrzejewski, founder of Foodspotting, has organized a Noe Valley foodie scavenger hunt! Pick up your game sheet at the store and then be the first to find all the foods to win a $100 (generously donated) Open Table gift certificate. She will also field foodie questions and sign copies of her book, The Foodspotting Field Guide.
At 2pm it is Dim Sum time! Free dim sum and tea with your purchase until we run out!
At 3pm live violin duets from Lucy and Lucinda (and games continue).
At 5pm live folk music from Phoebes Dough and we draw for raffle prizes.
Exclusive IBD books and art pieces will also be available only on May 2: a signed chapbook of original essays by the bestselling author of Bad Feminist, Roxane Gay; a Margaret Atwood stencil; a literary map of the seas; a color broadside from Allie Brosch; and Sweet and Salty Literary Tea Towel Sets to name just a few. More than 65 authors have demonstrated their support for independent bookstores by donating work for IBD.
We are also participating in the first ever Bay Area Bookstore Passport! You can download the passport here or pick it up at any of the participating bookstores. The passport is good ONLY on May 2nd and every three stamps = a prize box drawing!
